Course Information

The Youth Mental Health First Aid course has been updated for 2025, incorporating the latest knowledge and research. It has been redeveloped with an inclusive perspective, drawing extensively from the experiences of young people themselves. This course is perfect for anyone who lives with, works with or supports young people aged 8 to 18 and wishes to acquire the knowledge, awareness, and skills to recognise the signs of a young person experiencing mental health difficulties.

It also provides the confidence to initiate conversations and the tools to safeguard and direct young people to appropriate support. The training equips the adults in a young person’s life with the skills and confidence needed to identify mental health issues and offer initial support where necessary. By doing so, they can accelerate a young person’s recovery, prevent further deterioration of their mental health and potentially save lives. Furthermore, by equipping learners with the tools to manage their own mental health, we setting a positive example for young people. It is essential to demonstrate that mental health should be treated with the same importance as physical health and that discussing it and seeking help is entirely acceptable.

Together, we can foster mentally healthy, supportive environments in schools, colleges, youth groups, communities and families. Youth Mental Health First Aiders receive a three-year certification and are invited to join the Association of Mental Health First Aiders® – the first and only membership body for MHF Aiders in England. Members benefit from ongoing learning and expert support as well as being part of a national movement for improved mental health.
